Engineering

Hi guys new poster here. I just wanted to know how I would do at these colleges since I am very nervous about the college application process. I feel insecure, as Ijust want to know where I stand among my peers at an extremely competitive high school.

I am applying as an Electrical Engineering or Computer Science major.

Background:
• Race: Asian (Taiwanese)
• California resident

Stats:
• SAT: 2320 (770 CR, 770 WR, 780 Math)
• GPA: 3.98 (unweighted)
• Class rank: 11/715
• IB Diploma Candidate
• Senior year course load: Math HL, History HL, Theory of Knowledge, German 4 SL, English HL, Civics
• National AP Scholar and National Merit Semifinalist (PSAT: 233)

• 5s: European History, Calculus AB, Chemistry, US History, Statistics, Microeconomics, Macroeconomics
• 4: Psychology
Currently taking college level Physics at a local community college

ECs:
• President of Tech Club
• Cabinet of Chemistry Club
• NHS member – 3 years
• Varsity Tennis 2 years
• Outside of school tennis competitions
• Orchestra 4 years
• Interned for South Coast Air Quality Management and HABEY USA
• Developed a game/app for Android – 50+ downloads…

Other:
• Income - $80k and up – but finances are tight and I would prefer receiving some form of aid
• Hopefully have strong essays - for UC essays, wrote about my faith and the game I developed

I was originally planning to apply to Stanford EA, but with the deadline quickly approaching and my essays still lackluster, I decided to call it off. Instead, I’m considering applying to some of my safety schools for early action. Here is my list:

Santa Clara (EA)
Case Western (EA)
MIT
Caltech
Stanford
Harvey Mudd
Rice
Northwestern
Olin
USC
UC Berkeley (Should I apply as EECS or L&S CS?)
UCLA
UCSB
UCI
UCSC

Thank you so much guys!

You are a very strong candidate for all these schools. However, I did not see any SAT2 scores which is either required or recommended by several top schools on your list. Have you taken at least 2 SAT2?

Yes I did, I forgot to mention them, my bad. I took Math 2 (800), US History (760) and Chemistry (800). Thank you!

Do I have a shot at EECS at Berkeley? Or should I just apply to L&S CS? I feel that doing just computer science will be too restrictive… but again EECS is extremely competitive.

You can definitely make all the UC’s(most likely Berkeley too)

MIT and Stanford (the usual reach EC’s dont punch me in the face)

Rice and Northwestern seem matches

Do EECS, you’re a top candidate

Harvey Mudd, Caltech, and MIT are all reaches.
