Engineering

I was recently admitted to the Gonzaga University School of Engineering and Applied Sciences.
I was wondering if anyone had any information on the Engineering program and the Civil Engineering department. How good is it?

Hey we could be class mates. I was just visiting there and talked to one of the Civil Engineering professors and what he said made me really like the school. The engineering school seems to have its act together as far as I could tell. Seems like they try to make students well rounded in aspects other than just engineering.

I’d be interested in hearing anything about the engineering school… are the professors available, is there support if you need extra help? son is interested in mechanical engineering but I’m wondering if it will be impossible

Son admitted for Engineering - focus on Mechanical or Engineering Management. We are making a second trip for an overnight April 12-13. He went over spring break last year for the Junior Preview Day but wants a fresh look as we are down to Gonzaga, Marquette, and Oregon State.

I am a computer science major, which is under the engineering department in this school. I have many friends that are civil and mechanical engineer. The school is mostly known for being a small, liberal arts engineering and business school. Civil, mechanical, computer science, computer engineering, and other engineering programs are all under the School of Engineering. The class sizes are very small, and make no mistake, PROFESSORS ARE ALWAYS AVAILABLE. They always have their door open so you can just walk in. If you have class at the time when they are available, just shoot them an email and they will schedule an appointment. There was this one time where I was working on a computer science lab, and I could not get the code to work. My professor and I had a Skype date where he saw my screen and talked to me via mic about the problem! Another feature I like is that if you are not a natural math person like I am, they have a math tutoring room that always has a faculty math teacher available to answer any math problems you have. However, take my word: YOU WILL BE CHALLENGED. Do not expect to come in to this school and hope engineering will be “easy.” You will be challenged. You will be expected to put in many hours of work. You will take courses that many students find difficult. There are going to be many points in your journey where you will think about changing majors because of the amount of stress engineering causes on students. The tools and resources are available for you to succeed. YOU just have to put in the effort and make it work.

Thanks for the insight this sounds like just the right kind of engineering school for my son
