I read the profile for NCSU overall, but I was wondering if anyone can tell me approximately what SAT score is expected for engineering. I wasn't happy with my sophomore SAT score: 1870 {670 CR, 560 M, 640 W). I haven't got my PSAT scores back, but I did get a TASP letter, and I've heard that's a good sign.

I'm working with the ChemE department in order to matriculate into the major the fall after I graduate from high school; obviously, I've done well in college math and science. I'm worried though that my math SAT score might keep me out.

I feel like my EC's are very strong, as is the rigor of my courses and grades. If I get my SAT up, would I have a shot at major scholarships?

The website says the average incoming student has an SAT of 1170-1360, which is (I believe) about 100 points higher than the overall NCSU incoming class profile. I’m not sure if that’s middle 50%, but you fall right within that range. If you’re doing research with ChemE I’m sure that boosts your chances quite a bit, and assuming your other stats are strong I think you won’t have a problem being admitted. Seeing as your SAT is from sophomore year you should be able to improve it considerably with a little practice.

I’m not entirely sure how selective the departmental scholarships are yet - I’m currently hoping for one from Physical and Mathematical Sciences so we’ll see what happens.
