engineering

i'm stuck between 2 colleges. engineering school in northeastern, or the engineering program at umd.

i know umd has a slight better engineering program, but northeastern also has a pretty decent program as well. and they have the co-op which plays a huge role in getting a job after graduation.

northeastern is really expensive, but its in a great city. umd has all the college experience a student looks for, great parties, great sports programs and facilities, also its right next to DC.

so which program would you go for, northeastern or umd's engineering?
i was going to decide after i get my financial aid packages, but i realize their wont be a big difference between them.

Daughter’s dealing with similar issues…does she go to Northeastern for the honors program, the coop, and the city; or RPI for the stellar reputation and the plethora of club sports; or UMass for the honors program and the rural college community around Amherst. We’ve come to the conclusion that academically, she’ll get a state of the art engineering education at any of the three. At this point, RPI has a better package on the table, but she’s got a good feeling about NEU, probably because she was the driving force behind finding the school. And UMass comes in about 9K less per year than RPI.

I’m having a hard enough time advising my daughter about this choice, but the coop and Boston both hold some standing in my opinion. And of course, it comes down to where you feel the most comfortable. If you haven’t done comprehensive tours of both, you probably want to. You may be able to shadow a student and even get an overnight to see how the campus feels. The admissioins departments might be able to schedule that for you. Best of luck to you, and congratulations.
