according to the parents cafe, engineers have low GPAs because they are dumb, english majors are brightest according to them. This seems unjustified and the sides aren't even some of you may want to shine in.

GPA does not equal intelligence.

Also as you can imagine, engineering courses are ridiculously difficult compared to English courses.

xkcd - A webcomic of romance, sarcasm, math, and language - By Randall Munroe

what a waste of words, read other posts before posting

Dude, quit goading. We're all special in different ways. (Kumbaya.)
A couple of the posts were sarcasm and I've received PMs apologizing for any misunderstandings, and some of the posts were from frustrated people who're (rightfully) irritated at the blanket statements that engineers are smarter than liberal arts majors. Crafting a well-written paper is very difficult, even for the most literate of folks, and reading Margaret Atwood novels is enough to tell me that as amazing an engineer I am, there are some things at which I will never be brilliant. Respect other people and their talents.

(LOL. I was hoping that was the xkcd you were citing.
My husband, knowing my affinity for posting on CC, was very amused by that particular comic...)

Don't poke beehives, y'all.

Yes, that is why a 2.8 GPA engineer can graduate with a $50k job and a 3.8 GPA in english won't make anything close to that. GPA is very relative to your major.

I love the xkcd reference

Lol in India, if you major in anything related to the humanities (e.g. philosophy, English, etc), you're treated as a failure who couldn't get anything better (e.g. premed/engineering/business).

That xkcd cartoon is great: "Someone is wrong on the internet." It kind of just sums it up real well.

I remember a touch of humor from someone a few years back:

The best thing about internet message boards is that you get to speak your mind without any annoying interruptions. The worst thing about internet message boards is that everyone else gets to speak their mind without any necessary interruptions.

^^ i will add your quote to my favorite list. =)

The liberal arts students are fighting back after all the artsie bashing engineers have done since the beginning of time.

Based on my observations, the AVERAGE liberal arts student tend to lack quantitative skills, whereas the AVERAGE engineering student tend to lack creative thinking and social skills. Number-crunching abilities are often associated with intelligence.

However, claiming that engineers are dumb or liberal arts students are dumb is a rather meaningless debate IMO.

Reasoning skills are associated with intelligence (for obvious reasons). Reasoning allows one to better do math, certainly.

Actually, today's engineers are pretty much required to have good social skills. Teamwork is an important aspect in all engineering fields, so communication is integral.

In my opinion, intelligence can only be measured against those in your own field. Comparing the intelligence of engineers with those in liberal arts is like comparing apples with oranges.

Whoever posted that xkcd comic is a genius that made me laugh for about 30 minutes. Thx Haha!
