<p>I'm thinking about abandoning my current job search and fully focusing on my grad school applications. But a part of me is reluctant to make the leap, because by getting a PhD, I'm shutting the door on all entry level positions. I've had several interviews, and although they think my research sounds cool, I don't think they will call me back because they keep asking me why I really want to work for them; one of them even offered me to contact their R&D department (how flattering...).</p>
<p>I think I'm a better fit for research, and I think I might even experience less stress as a researcher, because I'll be doing something I actually believe in. So I'm just curious why the other engineers are interested in grad school. And do you think committing yourself to research would hinder you from accomplishing other things in your life? (eg. family, travelling, hobbies)</p>
