"Absolutely no one has a 4.0 GPA in engineering"

Not true - there's a legend here at berkeley of a Chem E. student who graduated with a 4.0

...then joined the peace corps.

A girl that graduated from my school this year had a 4.0 in engineering (I think BME? idk). It can be done, but is definitely not likely. I'm aiming for 3.7+...but we'll see.

Anyway, I'm just an incoming freshman into BME, so I have no firsthand experience...but do have lots of secondhand.

My brother started out in Chemical Engineering...and then went to Mechanical Engineering...and is now sitting happy as a Mathematics major. He's amazing at Math, but he just didn't like engineering as much as he thought he would. He had a bit of trouble because he's never been good at putting his work first.

One of his roommates is a Mechanic Engineering major (he should graduate this year...which is his fifth) and has quite an active social life. He manages his time really well, so he has a solid GPA and a great social life. He's actually one of the Blue Crew and goes to just about every sports game (they're free at my uni) either painted blue or wearing his gorilla costume. Weird, but funny as hell.

My RA is an Electrical Engineering major and says that it's very difficult, but totally worth the work if it's something you truly enjoy. Her warning was not to be frustrated when you needed help completing homework because even the smartest people are going to need help. She said it took her until her Junior year to be able to do her homework completely by herself.

Engineering doesn't have to be scary...just taken seriously.

do law schools realize that engineering majors can be very smart and not have an amazing gpa? Like if i apply for law school (patent law, need tech bg!) with a BS in ME and a 3.3 or 3.4, will that be considered worse than a 3.7 in philosophy?

I really think they'd know that a few Bs in engineering is different than a few Bs in something a bit less challenging.
