english 1a syllabus

it says we have to read 5 books, 4 of which are 500 500 1000 1200 pages long. i dont know if i can even finish that in one semester. are english classes really hard? how do the classes run?

Welcome to Berkeley. You need to read a lot, but maybe the prof will only have you read selections from each book. If you keep up with the readings, it isnt hard, just dont fall behind.

i have mcdermott for english. do you know anything about him?

The instructors for the 1 series are mostly just grad students, so it's unlikely that you'll find any ratings for them either on ratemyprofs or from other sources. Just try your best and I'm sure you'll pull through just fine.

wait a minute, where do you find class syllabi?

They're usually posted on the English class department website or on the respective course websites, which can be accessed by going to the online schedule of classes (schedule.berkeley.edu) and clicking on the appropriate links.

English 1A is most definetly much easier that upper divisions English classes. In general, English is definetly one of the toughest humanities departments at Berkeley.
