English 3 Proficiency Exam?

So yeah, my OC didn't know what it really was. He said something about how it might be the same as the AWPE, but I'm not sure... I checked out this website:

The Analytical Writing Placement Exam (AWPE) and the English Composition 3 Proficiency Exam

...but it really didn't help explain what the difference was. Does anyone have a clue about what this is? I'm supposed to take it or something in October to try and get out of EngComp 3 or something...but that's about as much as I know. o_O

This site might help:

[Analytical Writing Placement Exam - UCLA Undergraduate Admissions](http://www.admissions.ucla.edu/NewBruins/AWPR.htm)

It basically says that you have to take the AWPE, unless you got a high SAT Writing score or passed an AP English exam, in order to take English Comp 3. You can’t get out of it with the AWPE, as far as I can tell.

The English Composition 3 Proficiency test seems to be different, allowing you to get out of the class entirely if you do well on it AND have a 720+ on the SAT writing ([Schedule of Classes: Writing I and Writing II Course List](http://www.registrar.ucla.edu/soc/writing.htm#Anchor-Writing-49575)).

I’m not entirely sure, since the sources almost seem to contradict themselves, but I trust the second site there, since I am exempt from Writing I as it says I should be.

Hope this helps… I’ll keep an eye out for more information.

Hey I’m going to take the test too! The website doesn’t really say what it’s about though. Do you know how you’re going to prepare for it? I was thinking of using some english ap books.

I took the eng comp 3 test today. It’s exactly the same as the AWPE, but I guess they have higher standards when grading it? It’s basically just one essay that you get two hours to write. It’s like the essays on the SAT where you have to support your opinion, except on the proficiency test there’s also a passage that goes along with it.
