So if one scores above a certain level on the SAT II languarge test, one can be completely, entirely, forever exempt from taking a language at Dartmouth?

And if so, what is that score?

So if one scores above a certain level on the SAT II languarge test, one can be completely, entirely, forever exempt from taking a language at Dartmouth?

And if so, what is that score?

690+ or AP score of 4+. But, the lanaguage program at D is amazing, so consider taking a different language.

I know. My son is thinking of something funky like Russian or Arabic or Chinese. (I thought French would be nice . . . .)

How exactly does Writing 2-3 differ from 5?

Also, does the 690+ rule for SAT II's apply for all languages? Specifically Italian?

I am totally bumping this because I can't seem to find it on the D-mouth website... to repeat my question... what is needed to get placed INTO [not OUT OF] English/Writing 5? [Both SAT and ACT cutoffs.] Thanks!

The english 5 cut-offs are determined by the college each year so you will not find out until they tell you over the summer (which is why you cannot find it on the website).. For the past few years Dartmouth has talked about eliminating the writing exemption all together and making all freshmen taking english 5, who knows this may be the year.

I have an 800 on the French SAT II and could probably place out of French 8, but does anyone know how many students usually test out of French 10? I talked to someone in the French department during Dimensions and she said almost nobody does, but I spent four years in Belgium in elementary school and have studied French at an advanced level (mainly literature) since seventh grade.

I also somehow managed to score 700 on the Spanish test, which makes no sense, because my Spanish is awful.

And I can't decide if I should start studying a fifth language or try to perfect the ones I have. Decisions, decisions... :p

Have you considered being a drill instructor or maybe doing 2 LSA/ FSA in both spanish and french :) ?

Not yet, but I've considered majoring in indecision, so who knows what might happen? :D
