<p>How are the English and History departments at Dartmouth?</p>
<p>my son 08 had a freshman english class with discussions every class around a boardroom table ..some students at large universities never experience that til senior year or grad school</p>

<p>the first year writing and seminar are small classes ususally topped out at 18 students. Frist year seminar are offered in various subject areas and you choose your top 3 choices for seminiar. The seminiars change each term . The fall FYS are :</p>
<p>As in most schools english is a very popular major. At Dartmouth you have the choice of doing a major, a modified major or a minor in english.</p>
<p>There are 3 study abroad programs for english and a creative writing program:</p>

<p>The Department offers over fifty lecture courses on an extremely wide variety of subjects, times and places. In fact, the program provides one of the greatest and most diverse selections of courses at Dartmouth.</p>

<p>The history study abroad program is in london (but you do not have to be a history major to do the history study abroad)</p>

<p>I'm taking first year writing seminar this quarter, and it's a wonderful experience. You'll get very intimate advice from your professor by private discussion on your writing skills in the office or somewhere else. We are going to watch a horror movie next week, and the teacher will be hosting it in his home.</p>
