I took the act test in April and only scored a 28 and 25 on english and reading.
Anyone know what is type of reading materials I should read more often to improve reading and any good grammar books to improve English?

The Real ACT Prep Guide

I agree, get the Real ACT Book and do the practice tests in the book. The newest edition of the Real ACT Book has 5 practice tests in it. For English, you can google grammar sites and go over the rules; there are tons of sites out there. For reading, just do the practice test and you will get a feel for the timing, the format, and the pacing of the tests. On my daughter’s very first practice test she scored a 28 on English and a 27 on reading. After doing many practice tests, as well as going over some basic grammar rules that we found on online grammar sites, she was able to score a 34 and a 32 on English and a 31 and 33 on reading on the 2 real ACT tests that she took. If you practice and put the time in, you will see some meaningful results. Good luck!

Also, I forgot to add to thoroughly go over your mistakes on your practice tests. The Real ACT Book has detailed explanations on each question. It explains why the right answer is the right answer and why the wrong answers are the wrong answers. If you do this, it will help you in future tests to not make the same types of mistakes on similar questions. It will also give you a feel for how to answer the questions. In some of the questions, it is easy to narrow it down to 2 answers, but then it may be difficult to determine which is the right answer of the 2, but w/lots of practice, you will get a feel for how to answer the questions. It sounds cliche, but practice really does make perfect.
