English and Theatre Departments

Hi,
I'm a junior in high school and Reed seems like an awesome school, but I am wanted to know more about the English and Theatre departments/majors/related activities. What are your favorite classes? Who are your favorite teachers? Etc...!
Thanks!

The English department is very strong at Reed. Lots of topical literature classes, lit theory, professors with rave reviews. Pancho Savery and Pete Rock (creative writing) get frequent accolades from students.
The Theatre department is currently in a state of growth and transition into their new $10 million performing arts building, which comes with expanded faculty positions as well. [Reed College | Performing Arts Building](Performing Arts Building - Reed College) There are 3 new professors, and 1 who is about to retire. IMO it would be an exciting time to become a part of the dept and see what shape it ends up taking. Some of the newer profs and several students are interested in devised and experimental theatre (like Viewpoints, Suzuki), though right now that is rarely evidenced in Mainstage productions. Peter Ksander is great and I’ve heard good things about the Kate Bredeson.

Ds best friend had a theatre/ music degree & while he did have to take a day job to live in NYC, he also was able to find stage work and won an Obie award within a few years of graduation( for Off Broadway productions)
