My daugher wants to study English/Creative writing. I like the idea of coops for the work experience and exposure. However, most of the better coops at NEU seem to be geared towards business and science majors. Most of the coops in her major are clerical type work that she can do at home during the summer. For example, medical assistant (filing, answering phones, etc). She has already done some intership work for a small public relations firm and I would think she would want to try something more challenging. I am getting the idea that this would school would not be the best choice for her major.

I would like to hear experience from students who are currently enrolled in this major or have graduated.

One of my friends was an English major / Comp Sci minor, and his co-ops were in the tech writing field (including one with IBM). There are a few in publishing houses and the like, and a TON as teachers of English/ reading. But that’s based on the 3 people I know in the English major, so my picture may not be fully accurate.

like royalrooter, my only info is just anectodal and I don’t know many english majors… my roommate is an english and econ dual major and she’s gotten really good co-ops. She does a lot of technical writing (worked for a statistics company and some kind of accounting firm), but she’s happy and she makes great money.

Guess this isn’t anymore helpful than previous posts, more just a ditto.
