How strong is Berkeley’s undergrad english dept? How does it compare to Rice’s english program? Thanks ; ]

http://www.berkeley.edu/about/honors/grad/

that should help you, english is 2nd in US
although the rankings are graduate, u can infer that the undergrad program must be pretty strong

really, tho change to science or engineering, it's the only way to go
lol :D

don't know about rice tho...

Since I'd be coming from out of state and paying the out of state tuition, would you say berkeley is worth it for english?

i really couldn't say, i hope so though b/c i have the same situation
im paying out of state for chemical eng. in my case, tho, berkeley is the best eng school

is rice giving you any money?

i'm pretty sure berkeley has one of the best english departments in the us

Berkeley > Rice in the major
Berkeley > Rice in Reputation
Berkeley > Rice in Selectivity
Berkeley > Rice in Cost (for in-staters)

The choice is clear.

ru kidding, Rice is more selective than Berk

Wow. Rice made their admissions statistics impossible to find. Although it is hard to get into Rice (harder than I ever thought), what do you mean by it is more selective than Berkeley? It accepts fewer applicants (percentage wise), but has a far smaller number of applicants, and a much smaller class to fill.
