English, Communications or MPA

Ok, so I have a MAJOR problem here, so please read all of this before you respond.

I have a BA in history and as far as I am concerned, it is the worst liberal arts degree that you can get. Psyc, poli sci, English and even sociology majors can do something with their degree, but not History majors. I recently decided to go back to school to get either a second bachelor's degree or a Masters. Now before you tell me that I am wasting my time going back for a second bachelor's please listen. I am wanting to get a degree that is affordable and will be online. I have found a 2 programs that will do this one of them offers a degree in English which I am 9 classes away from finishing at 500 per class. The other costs the same amount, but it is a degree in PR and I am 13 classes away. The first English program is done like a regular semester. The second program follows a rotation and the classes are offered every 8 weeks.

And then there is an MPA, which I am also interested in. The reason that I have doubts about this is because it is expensive at 1,250 a class. However, the perks on this are that the director of the program kinda hooked up me up and is willing to let me in the program without having to take the GRE and his classes are easy and he is laid back. I have been to one of his classes and they are quite enjoyable.

Now, money is a big concern here. The reason that I am doing all of this is because I have a medical condition that prohibits me from standing for long periods of time and so I will need to pursue a degree that will be flexible and help me to get a desk job or at least a job where I am not on my feet all day. This is extremely important. I have heard that English and Communication degrees help in this regard. I am limited on funds. I can spend 5000 on a degree. I am earning a salary right now, but it will end this year and then the only job that I will be able to do in my area is be a substitute teacher. If you were in my situation, what would you do? Please do not tell me to not go back to school as I know that with a History degree, I will not get anywhere. Thanks
