I was wondering what you have to score on your ACT or SAT at Florida State to take english composition. I know that UF requires a 29 on the english part of the test. Is FSU different?

FSU will award credit for ENC1101 to any student with an SAT Verbal sub-score of 650 or higher or an ACT English sub-score of 29 or higher. Credit for MAC1105 is awarded for SAT Quantitative sub-scores of 680 or higher or an ACT Math sub-score of 30 or higher. This credit should be posted prior to your arrival at Orientaton.

Hmm I wasn’t aware that UF did that as well…it might have factored into my decision.

so do they give you a credit for it or do they allow you to take it only if you have those scores?

If you have the scores, you don’t take the class.

oh ok thank you :)

You get credit for the class with 3 hours with a passing P grade. It has no effect on your GPA.

thx sunny for the link…useful information!

Heads up: Sometimes the credits don’t post, so just remember to tell your advisor at orientation. My son (34 in English, 31 in math) had neither the math nor English posted to his transcript. His advisor allowed him to enroll in the second English class, but he received notification from the school that he was deliquent in his English requirement. He was able to work it out, but he would have taken an unnecessary English class if he hadn’t known about the policy.
