When does the professor post the textbook for this class? It's not yet listed on myucla. And in general, how difficult is this class?

i heard it's not that bad.

its not that bad, but the professor will definitely make it or break it for you. they decide on the class topic and workload etc. most eng comp 3 profs are pretty laid back though.

as for the books, just keep checking the site. if they dont update it, then you either dont have any or you will find out the first day. i think most EC3 classes use course readers though.

What are course readers?

its basically just a big thing of photocopied pages bound together. could be some handouts, a chapter or two from a book, copy of an article, samples of previous student papers the professor had, etc. they can be pretty expensive (ranges from like $20 to $100+) due to paying copyrights.

for english comp 3 class:

would i ever need my ap lit sparknotes i bought from the bookstore? should i pack 'em?

should i also bring those books i have like the awakening, portrait of an artist as a young man, etc..?

sure, if you want to re-read them for fun. :)

No. Don't bring your SparkNotes. There isn't a standard/rigid syllabus with the writing classes (Eng Comp 3 or 4W). Your instructor chooses the works. And, well, you can just go to Sparknotes.com .........

mme-lin, where's the obligatory "Don't! Worry! About! It!"?

hibiscus*pink*:

Don't
worry
about
it* ! ! !*

Dwai? Dwai?

i dunno wut prof you have but mine were listed:

1) Signs of Life in the USA 5th Ed.
2) Writer's Reference

I have no books shown for my eng comp 3 class too. Hopefully I find out soon, I wanna get textbooks done with and out of the way. I have prof Fallows.

I have Maasik/Coulter. Anyone else have them?

lecture 38??? cuz i got massik too...forgot the second prof's name

8 am Mon/ Wed?

nah, heck i definitely cant wake up that early, nah its 11 am mon/wed

fallows is supposed to be the best

beware of rubinson. rated very highly but he doesnt care for students that much. still, he's fairly easy and you could do worse.

Actually Steinberg is the most popular, and then Fallows. Because they are easy. Seriously, you learn absolutely nothing from easy English Composition 3 professors (not meant to anyways) and maybe a little from the books you read from the typical Eng. Comp 3 professor.

i just wanna get it over with asap.
