English Course Placement Question

I was wondering, as an incoming freshmen, is the placement of English 001A average or below average

yea that means you satisfied the AP English test because i didn’t have to take the placement and thats what they put me in

It’s average or above…definitely NOT below

just pray you dont get 004 or worst get placed with the FOBs in 003

Eng1A is a typical starting point for all students (:

Eng 04/03 are pretty much remedial courses.

Only way to get placed above English 1A is to take AP English classes

Although I remember being exempted from the english placement test and automatically put in English 1 A because of my SAT writing score… o.o (seems weird to base class placement on a 3 hour test )

If you were placed in English 1A that means you passed the exam. Congrats!
I took the english placement test last year and I got placed in English 1A too. Btw…english 1A is a breeze(well that’s if you get an easy professor)!

Eng 004=C
Eng 1A= B
Eng 1B= A

that was how my english classes went. Usually the remedial classes are harder cause they make you do worthless s-hit

In my opinion the grades that you obtain in a class is highly dependent on the instructor that you get…

Each class also has different priorities in what you have to learn, so that might affect your grade given that you probably do well and worse in different aspects of composition

For example, I did a bit worse in English 1A than in 1C, because the former class asked for personal essays (which I was unaccustomed to), in contrast to literary analysis for the latter - which I was more used to writing.

I heard Eng4 professors are really nitpicky with grammar.

I agree with whiteclock though… your grade depends on your instructor. There are hard graders and easy graders. There are some professors that are really hard because they expect you to know how to write like college students… so bad grammar, incorrect spelling, etc. would be unacceptable. Some professors fail you if you get caught plagiarizing, and some professors let it go and tell you to just redo it.

yeah eng 4 prof are picky with grammar but the finally is what really makes it or breaks it

Did anyone get the AWPE results yet? I never got anything in the mail and wanted to see the score I received.

Go to your my.ucr.edu account and it’ll be there under the test scores tab. They don’t send actual mail haha. It’s okay, I thought that too until I actually checked the test scores tab.

Wow, I passed. I thought I did really bad because I have a hard time getting the point across when I write… I really want to know the score I got because I care about this kind of stuff unlike most of my friends.

…That’s why I post here, because a lot of people here care about these little things that no one else seems to care about lol.

they dont tell you the score

i meant final on my last post

What is english 5? And i was given the option to take 1PA

take a look at http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/university-california-riverside/950713-english-classes.html

you’re supposed to take them together… then it will fulfill the eng1a requirement.

just kidding. didn’t see your post there yet. lololol
