Right now, I’m caught in the tough spot of deciding between GW and Emory; while GW’s giving me a decent amount of money, and while I like the location quite a bit, my main sticking point is with GW’s English program. I’m interested in majoring in English/Creative Writing (an option that’s offered at both Emory and GW), but it’s hard to get a sense of how good GW’s English department is. It’s obviously a school more oriented to politics and international affairs–something that I’m interested in on a personal level, rather than an academic one–and I haven’t heard a ton about the quality of the English department. While it’s obviously not as accredited as Emory, is the department still decently good?
it’s really not going to make much of a difference man. go where the money is. if gw is giving you a decent amount of money, that’s the better choice. tbh your english degree is not worth paying more money for. you mention that you like DC and have a little bit of interest in politics, those are additional pluses. in my opinion, i don’t think that you would notice a substantial difference in the quality of your english education between gw and emory, if at all.
