English department

Hi all
I'm a transfer student who applied as an American Lit & culture major. I wanted to know how flexible UCLA's English department would be in allowing American Lit majors to switch to the pure English major? I may want to do this should I attend UCLA.

I think the American lit major is awesome and I like that it has an interdisciplinary component to it. However, since the upper division requirement is 2 courses about American culture, I'm thinking of switching to a basic English major and minor in an interdisciplinary subject instead.

Has anyone been through this? I guessing it can't be TOO difficult since it's an interdepartmental major switch...

thanks

You could switch to English from any other department as long as you have the requirements fulfilled and will graduate on time.

I too, was wondering about this. Yet, isn’t English an impacted major? Thus, not allowing anyone to switch over?

@xmathx while impacted, I saw this info posted on the UCLA English dept website regarding declaration of the English major:

At this time, the Department has not placed a limit on the number of undergraduate English or American Literature & Culture majors at UCLA. The Department does stipulate that to declare either Bachelor of Arts program as your major, you must not be on academic probation. If you are a continuing student, you must have completed one quarter at UCLA.

However, being a transfer student as opposed to a 4-year student at UCLA changes things. hmmm
