English Language Discussion

I just recieved my score today and I am completely shocked. I did not do good and I thought I would do soo much better. I'm so sad. I studied my butt off and I thought my teacher prepared us pretty well, at least for the FR. The majority of her students usually get a 3 or higher. I know I did really well on FR, I omitted a lot (20) on the MC, but I thought that would be for the better... The MC wasn't that hard.. Idk, IM SO CONFUSED. Did anyone else do suprisingly poor?

POST YOUR SCORES.

you can get score distributions on the CB website. Usually about the top 10th get 5's, the next 20-25% with 4's, a big chunk with 3's, maybe 20% with 2's, and few 1's.
A discussion of the content (only the free response, of course) might help you out more. It is probable that you messed up at least one essay if you got a 2 or something...unless you seriously bombed the MC with like every question wrong or something.

So what did everyone think of the pink flamingos, the long money winder, and the argumentative on...wass it freedom of expression? It was so long ago that i forgot everything.

I felt I did really well on the mc but not so well on the essays. I was kind of sitting there not knowing what to write really for the essays, but I ended up with a 4 probably because my mc was good.

I thought MC was OK, flamingos were awesome, the money thing was fun, and the argument sucked. I'm guessing 3-4, but don't know yet.

But let me add this.

DON'T NOT GUESS! The guessing penalty won't actually hurt your score, and it's statistically likely that despite the "penalty" guessing will help your score

yes....

DON'T NOT GUESS!

:)

I agree with the don't not guess...but statistically, if you randomly guess, then 0.201-0.25.8 = 0.

Yeah that's assuming you can guess randomly like a computer program - and not guess with bias and fall for traps while in a rush.

Got a 4. I didn't think that I did very well. Meh.

i did randomly really well. i actually didn't know there were essays on the test until i heard the directions for the test. i got a 5 haha.

who the heck doesn't know there are essays on an english composition test? wow.

it does seem like 5s are few and far between...even on this forum, where everyone seems to be so smart

i actually got a 5...even though i wrote "illusion" instead of "allusion" for the flamingo essay...i thought it did horribly, but was pleasantly surprised...i'm even more surprised because some of the best students in my class and some of my smartest friends got 4s

That's pretty odd if you don't know there are essays on an English test. Bad school

probably walkin/self-study. but even so...

That's kinda weird that you studied AND had a decent teacher and still did poorly. I thought the MC was MUCH EASIER than the prc sections we took in my English class, and the essays were not bad, considering they could have been worse. I thought I did decent on 2/3 essays, pretty well with the MC, and I got a 5. I think omitting those 20 questions probably hurt your score (I think I omitted less than 5?).

i got a 5, didnt rly study but it helped that we reviewed rhetorical devices a TON during the school year. i tend to be a beast at multiple choice and i'd bet money that i didn't miss any. i did however botch the money essay--it turned out to be satirical but i, being waaay too serious, took it, well, seriously.

lol--our english course doesn't study at all for AP's/SATs/anything really. It is a really abstract course. I signed up for it because I figured it would be similar to the SATII Lit. Not a lot of kids at my school take the Language AP so I pretty much just winged it.

I haven't gotten my score yet. I think that I did pretty well on this AP though.

However, English Language is known as one of the harder AP exams. There isn't much studying that can be done, which is both a good and a bad thing. The score distribution somewhat reflects the difficulty level. Very few people get 5s. This may be, however, because a wider range of students takes the English Language AP then, say, the Calculus BC AP exam.

Got a 5! Was pretty happy considering it's one of the hardest tests to get a 5 on. Now to use this score aas a confidence builder to improve my ****ty 680 CR!

I got a 5. We practiced alot of essays and rhetoric devices, but the latter wasn't really useful.

Ugh so dissapointed. I thought I did well on it, but only got a 4.
