Which do you think is the most interesting and why?

Since this is a subjective question about what personally interests me most: I would say classic civ. I've always loved ancient Roman and Greek history, and I plan on taking Latin classes to fufill my for. lang requirement. I've taken a lot of history and English and philosophy classes (the first two are my double-majors) and each class benefits with a general basis in classical knowledge, be it Roman law or Greek philosophical influence or mythology. To understand Western civilization as we know it today, studying classic civ is to me necessary; so many strains of thought and societal structure throughout the centuries can be traced back to these two ancient cultures.

By the way, most people I know (myself included) would never consider a Classic Civ/Lang major or minor. It's all about econ, the sciences, history or English. It's not because Classic Civ is necessarily harder or more difficult to get a degree in, it just doesn't seem useful. As much as I love learning about Classic Civs, even I can't commit to it being my major or minor. That's my own prejudice, I guess.

and history has much more use? Not that im hating on history, its probably going to be my second major, but it doesnt have that much use compared to econ and others...

I doubt a minor in econ will add any practicality to my BA (unless I change it) in Philosophy

If you're going on to graduate studies in history or international law, well yeah, in those cases history does have use. Yeah?

Econ is by far the most boring, in my opinion. I took several Classics courses last year and really enjoyed them, so I was pretty settled on a second major or minor in Classics. This semester I'm taking an American Lit course and am absolutely loving it...but I really like the two Classics courses I'm taking too. Trying to figure out a good balance in majors and minors in Biology, Earth Science, Classics, and English is making my head hurt. At least I have until March to decide. :(

Do you have a particular interest in philosophy? If you enjoy ancient philosophy (even the dreaded pre-Socratics!), it might be very feasible to complete a Classics/Philosophy double major with some overlap.

Well, I'm still deciding. That's why I posted this thread. Right now, I'd say I'm leaning towards Econ.

bump this up
