English Major, Cal Spring Deferred Admissions

Hello. My name is Margareth.

I was accepted to Cal into the College of Letters &Sciences. Woot. I was really happy until they said it was a deferred Admission for Spring 2013. Boo.

I was really hoping to start school in the Fall. When I called my Cal Admissions Officer, she really didn't give me many options. (I could work, take CC courses but I am at my limit, or relax).

I also got accepted to UCLA. Not only are they closer (Ten miles) to home, but they are giving me money, an opportunity to attend a Transfer Summer Program before I start the fall AND I got into my major. Unlike UCLA, I would have to petition for my major and I don't know how that works.

So I don't know what kind of advice anyone would give me, if you have any, but what should I do?

Also, my plans for my English B.A. is to go to Law School and UCLA has an amazing Law Fellows Program and I can't find any information on a similar program for Cal...

well, in the grand scheme of things waiting a single semester to get into Cal is nothing to worry about. you can use the time to get organized and do some research on the things that will help you during your studies and later when you move on to graduate school.

so, if you really want to go to Cal, then just do. the great news is that you were accepted and for some students that is a dream that never comes trues.

UCLA is also a top notch school, so if you prefer to attend UCLA, by all means, do that. congrats on getting accepted to both schools. cheers.
