English Major/ Computer Science Minor

I was talking to an administrative member a my university and asked "which class was most applicable to your career". This person minored in CS and stated that it helps her out so much. The amount of computers that are used within the office, being knowledgeable about computers is an invaluable skill. The staff member also told me that the other majors of study will help just as long as their is a balance of civic engage, communication skills combined with technical skills are very valuable to employers.

Do you agree that a non 'practical major' combined with a technical minor improves your prospects of employment?

As workers do you feel that employers value a combination of left brain right brain skills?

The plan makes a lot of sense. Technical skills are a necessity in all fields today. The people who add content to our IT applications are marketing and liberal arts majors and they must know how to use computers beyond the simple level of making power points and word documents. My son is a journalism major and he is minoring in information technology.
