English Major question

I was just wondering if a fellow English major can help me out, or someone else that just knows.

Do i need to take a math class as an English major? If I do i'll just take the math diagnostic test, but I don't want to take it if I don't have to. I called the campus and they said they didn't know and to wait til orientation, but hopefully someone can just help me out here.

And if I do, is it just Math 1? I've been looking everywhere online and can't find an answer.

You will have to fulfill a quantitative reasoning requirement, but it doesn’t have to be with a class from the mathematics department per say.

The requirement may also be satisfied by achieving an SAT Reasoning Test Mathematics Section score of 600 or higher or an SAT Subject Test in Mathematics score of 550 or higher. Approved courses include Biostatistics 100A, 100B, Mathematics 2 (or any higher numbered course except 19, 71SL, 72SL, 89, 89HC, 98XA, 98XB, 99, 103A, 103B, 103C, 105A, 105B, 105C, 189, 189HC, 195, 197, 199), Philosophy 31, Political Science 6, 6R, Program in Computing 10A, 10B, 10C, Statistics 10, 10H, 11, 12, 13, 14.

Furthermore, you will have to take GEs, which are broken down into various categories such as Foundations of Scientific Inquiry, in which you could choose to take a math course that would simultaneously meet the quantitative reasoning requirement (i.e. Stats 10). This category requires 2 courses in the life sciences and 2 in the physical sciences (Physics 10 for example), with 1 having an associated lab.

There are certain requirements that you have to satisfy, but you definitely aren’t “required” to take a math class. UC-Dreams pretty much said everything: there’s a quantitive reasoning requirement as well as some physical science/life science and lab requirements, but those can be satisfied through a wide variety of classes like the Life Science class for non-life science majors, astronomy, maybe some anthro, etc.
