Hello, I got accepted into UCSD with a major in pre lit/writing while getting accepted to UCSB with an English major at the same time. I know that UCSD is mainly about sciences and such while UCSB is all about humanities or something. CAN ANYONE GIVE ME SUGGESTIONS ABOUT WHICH SCHOOL TO CHOOSE? Thank you :)

UCSB’s English department isn’t half bad…

well, i don’t mind the comparison in rankings between UCSD and UCSB. its just the quality of education and such i’d get from the major at the school. i also dont really care about the “party scene” at each school because imma party it up like ive always done in any school hahah

For English, I’d strongly recommend choosing UCSB over UCSD. I have to make the same choice but am definitely going to UCSB. UCSD, while it offers various literature majors, does not have an English department. My AP Lit & Comp teacher transferred from UCSD to UCSB and recommended the latter’s English department with enthusiasm.

Also, in addition to its English major in the College of Letters & Science, UCSB offers a Literature major in the College of Creative Studies (CCS). CCS is a program unique to UCSB (out of the UC’s); it is known as a “graduate school for undergraduates,” and offers accelerated learning for English majors who are extremely motivated and know what they want to do.

UCSD might be ranked slightly higher, but you have to remember that, like you said, it is primarily an engineering / biology / pre-med school and is arguably weak for an English major.

well, im planning on getting into law school for right now. so thats an influencing factor in this decision too. but thanks for the suggestion, cc!
