english major

how do people feel about the english dept.? is there an interesting variety of courses? how are the profs?

bump bump bump

anyone? the silence is a little bit worrisome...

My D is on the wait list. so I dont speak from experience. But looking through the undergrad bulletin and course list, the is a plethora of offerings, highly credentialed faculty.

In general, WashU is ranked in almost every department conceivable. I would look on the web if you dont have their bulletin yet and examine the course offerings, faculty, and also email the faculty and inquire. My D did that at a couple of schools and got some very nice responses back. And of course nothing replaces a campus visit and talking directly with the students and professors.

I wish you luck.

I'm not an english major, but I'm a creative writing student, so I have a lot of contact with them. Basically, they're wonderful. Not only do they pay a lot of attention to students (I just went to the English department awards ceremony, where you can enter all kinds of essays/writing and they give out a bunch of awards), all the professors I have met so far in that department are wonderful. Sorry I can't be more specific! but if you're interested in fiction writing, take a class from Kelly Wells. trust me, she's fabulous.
