Hey everyone, I am a high school senior and I am trying to decide what I am going to major in. I have thought about majoring in english and then going to law school, but then I am worried about how I am going to pay for law school with just an english degree. I am also worried about what will happen if I do not make it to law school and am stuck with a great degree but one which is not quite as marketable as I would like. Does anyone have any advice or suggestions?

If you like English, major in it, regardless whether or not it's a "practical" major; it will help you in whichever career path you choose.

However, if you simply want to major in English because you think it will help you in law school, don't major in it.

All in all, major in whatever you like. You may not want to go to law school after college, and so you should major in something that YOU like and YOU think will enable you to succeed in whichever way you'd like to in the future.

An English major can be very marketable actually, but especially so when it's part of a double major. Buisness and English? Great. Biology and English? Even better.

By itself, you just need to get some work experience. Helping peers develop their writing skills, research with a professor, etc. But it can lead to some great things like media.

You can get a job in business with an English major. You can even get an excellent job depending on where you go to school. Even if you don't get one of those excellent entry-level jobs, moving up the ladder without a business major is possible. The importance of your major after five years of work is almost nothing (in business). Study what you enjoy and minor in business if you want.
