English Not First Language a plus or negative?

Hey, if english was not my first language, but I had learned it at around age 6, would it be a positive or negative? I guess my writing score was a 640 and a my SAT verbal was 690, not too bad scores. But would stating that help colleges like Penn and Duke understand these scores and perhaps other low english grades such as a B average grade?

I mean would it help in terms of diversity or anything?

It doesn't matter either way as there are plenty of applicants to top colleges who came to the US and learned English in middle school yet still have V SAT scores in the 700s and got "A" grades in difficult English classes. I have interviewed such students for my Ivy alma mater.

Thus, what will matter will be your scores and grades, not how long you've been learning English.

As for diversity, the colleges that you mention get many international applicants. Unless your home country is very unusual, I doubt that being an international will help you.

ok got it, i will try to raise my SAT score thanks.

other thouhgsts?

It doesn't matter if ur in ESL or not when it comes to SATs. Not to brag but I'm a rising senior and during my junior year I took ESL. However, my final SAT CR score was 770. I studied for the SATs and it actually worked. Just study smart and GOOD LUCK!! :)

great job. Got it, Ill be sure to try to do that. Thanks.

other thoughts?

More of a plus, definitely not a negative

It's definitely not a negative. But It'll be a huge plus if you've come here in the middle of high school and by the time you are a senior, your english scores are better than 99% of American students.
