English on the ACT

Hello everyone. I have started my preparation for the ACT. I am taking it on June 8th. Math isn't a problem for me. However, English is a bit. I scored 25. I am using the red book. I do not know what approach should be adopted in order to get a 30+. I made quite silly mistakes but I tend to lose the essence of the essays as I progress. What would be the best solution to improve my score?
Secondly, Reading is also a bummer. I am a slow reader and I know time is an enemy. Please, help and suggest me with the best possible way to do well on this test. Finally, should I practice from any other book except the red book. I don't know of many coz I am taking the ACT for the first time. I would be really glad if you guys can help.
Thanks and Cheers.

take as many practices as you can and you’ll eventually find your own way of doing the ACT

I am studying from the boost your score advantage point thing. You can only get these links through the disk, but here they are:

The first is an overview of the section, and the rest are the sub sections. I have a 31 right now, and I am trying for a 35

Thanks a lot people. Reading is easier than the SAT. But, I really want to end up with 30+. SAT was just not my thing. I hope I do well. I don’t know where I can get more practice tests. There are just 5 which are given in the red book.
:S

jspence29, your links are amazing. I just reviewed them. I have started my preparation from Barron’s as well. Thanks.

Some advice on English.
Read the whole passage. It helps answer some questions, such as tense and also those rhetoric questions. I jumped my English score 10 points really just by learning the rules and practicing. When you come to a question, read it aloud in your head. What sounds right is probably correct. Finally, the shortest answer is correct about 60% of the time. When in doubt, pick the most concise wording.
