English portion of IB Testing?

what exactly is in the english portion of IB Testing? I am certain there will be a read a paragraph than answer questions section. Is there a synonym section? Is there a writing section? Maybe a grammar section?

IB English…

It’s all pretty much analyzing literature. I have my assessment outline in my bag that I don’t feel like pulling out.

It’s all writing btw.

really? So the entire english portion of the test is like you read a passage then write about what the question asks about it?

What are the questions like? Do they require like 3 sentences of writing per question or is the question topic broad enough that it requires you to write like couple paragraphs worth?

It depends on the markscheme for the question. Higher marks mean they expect a lengthier response. And I believe paper 1 of the exam is of literature you’ve read, and paper 2 of the exam is a random piece you have to analyze and write a commentary on.

Thanks MIThope. Further information would be great. If anybody has more info or maybe even a sample question lying around that you can divulge on, that would be great.

From what I’ve heard for HL english:

Paper 1 you get to choose between a passage of prose or a poem to write a commentary analyzing, you get two hours
Paper 2 you write to a prompt based on the works you have read in class. I think you get to choose from a list of prompts. Again, 2 hrs

The rest of your final test grade is based on the World Literature papers and the oral assessments. And I may have paper 1 and 2 backwards but I’m pretty sure I don’t. If you want more details on the internal assessments let me know, I’ve done one of the World Lits and the IOP, and I’m currently preparing for the other two :)

This gives an outline of the examination
