Ok, a few questions here regarding majoring in English and potential job prospects.

I'm a sophomore at a community college who will be transferring in Jan 2006. Not exactly sure where, possibly Binghamton, Geneseo or NYU (depends on where I get accepted and how much FA NYU offers me in the event I do get accepted)

My goal is to teach English at the college level. However, I would be fine with teaching at a lower-level univ/college or even a community college.

I would like to get my Masters degree in England because I really love to travel, and spending two years in England with the possibility of summers off and European countries a short plane ride away would be an incredible experience. I would then like to return to the U.S to get my PhD in English. However, when I thought up this situation I did not realize that most PhD programs are four-five years even with a masters (Unless I am mistaken?)

Other options that sound appealing to me would be to get my masters in English so I can teach High School or Middle School while I work on my PhD. However, if the PhD program is four-five years even with a masters I do not know if I would want to take that route. I'm 25 now, and since my goal is to teach college level I'd rather not waste anymore time and just go straight for my PhD while working odd jobs on the side.

Additionally, any advice on how difficult it would be to find a job teaching English at the college level (Again a CC is fine with me) once I acquire my PhD? I'm not one of those people who would turn down a community college teaching position out of pride. Thanks again.
