Umm, I was wanting to know if you all think that an english major would be the best for a career as an editor or a publisher. Or is journalism better? I'm kinda new at this, and I don't knowif I'm doing it right. so please correct me if i'm wrong.

Although I don't know much about the career, I would imagine either would work, and that English programs usually seem more serious, although I don't encounter many journalism programs. Also, are their classes within journalism or majors within journalism schools on publishing or editing?

Get a copy of Encyclopedia of Careers and Vocational Guidance; your public library should have copies. The articles are very helpful and specific.

English will probably expose you to a broader range of text types and historical periods--make sure there are plenty of writing courses to choose from -- something like Introduction to Journalism would also be useful. English majors can usually get internships related to editing and publishing--that would be very worthwhile.
