Anyone know anything about the Undergrad English Program?? Strengths, Weaknesses? I’m trying to decide which Ivy is the best for this.

Don't hesitate to look beyond the ivy league. A lot of liberal arts colleges are great in English.

okay. any suggestions?

brown's undergrad english program is pretty popular and also quite strong. they recently got a really nice new building (if you refresh the department homepage a couple times you'll see a nice aerial picture of it)

one of the advantages of brown's program, as with many of brown's programs, is its interdisciplinary nature. there are close ties with Africana Studies, American Civilization, Comparative Literature, Modern Culture & Media, Theatre, Speech & Dance, Ethnic Studies, Literary Arts, etc.

you can find out more here

okay. i'm confused. this may be a really stupid question, but how would i benefit from their "interdisciplinary nature"

it depends on your interests...particularly with a field like "english", there are many things you can study and many ways to study them.

if you, say, had a particular interest in east asian culture it may be fascinating to you to take an english class that is cross-registered in that department

oh ok. i get it. but i just want to write. How is the creative Writing part??

it's called literary arts at brown. there are quite a few preeminent faculty members who advise senior capstone projects including paula vogel, j edgar wideman, robert coover, cd wright, etc.

also, go here and click on info for new students

ok. thanks

For liberal arts colleges... Amherst, Swarthmore, Wesleyan, Vassar, Kenyon, Wellesley, Bryn Mawr, Barnard, Smith (the last four if you're female). Most good liberal arts colleges have good English departments.
