I’m finishing my sophomore year in high school, and would like to pursue a career in computer science, of which I am very passionate. I also would like to get into a very competitive school, such as UIUC, as it’s in-state and costs less than other schools. My concern is that I may not be taking enough AP courses (planning to take 6), because I know that just in my school alone, I have friends that will take twice as many AP’s. However, the 6 that I anticipate taking are ones that I will really enjoy and will have the greatest relationship to computer science. Sure, there are plenty of AP history courses, but none of those interest me, and I wouldn’t want to put fourth the effort in those classes. Should I continue to do what I plan? Are 6 AP classes that relate to my major good enough or should I be taking more? Thanks.
