enough science courses in high school?

These are the science classes I took

9th: Biology 1 HN
10th: Chemistry 1 HN
11th: AP Chemistry and Physics 1 HN
12th: AP Physics C

Will I be penalized for taking sciences in only three different subject areas?

That’s more than enough science courses. I mean the only requirement that I know of is that you should be taking at least one science course per year (which is, I don’t know, the same requirement for any subject in high school?). Obviously doing well in those courses is more important.

You might be penalized for taking science in only three subject areas if the three weren’t Physics, Biology, and Chemistry – essentially the Trivium of science study. What else were you supposed to have been taking?

Well if it’s not AP or Honors, I’m not taking it and the only other ones offered are AP Environmental Science and AP Bio…AP Physics is way harder than APES though.

I highly doubt this aspect will make-or-break your application. I myself took no AP science courses in high school (physical sciences, biology, physics and chemistry… all basic, all lax). However, I was still accepted. I cannot say that my case if typical (most Chicago students take AP courses, I’d imagine), but I can say that is is possibe to get to Chicago with far fewer credentials in science than what you have to offer.

Best of luck.

I only took 3 social science classes (World History, US History & Government/Economics…no APs) and 4 English classes (just the standard…no APs) and got in. So I wouldn’t see why “only” 4 science classes would hurt your application, at all!

And there were options for APs in both social science and english…

^^^I took 5 science courses

Hi!I am worried about that ,too…I took natural sciences in China, for we have to take Physics every year since 8th grade,Chemistry since 9th and Biology in 10th…and then I got in an exchange program in my junior year (That’s where my problem comes from)during which I did not study natural sciences at all-,-I only had economics,US history and US Government as my social sciences…Now I am back to my country and was arranged into a unit where only mixed natural sciences are given in 1/8 of the whole day school time, and I am having a blocked schedule heavily weighed on a course similar to Government…
Will I be penalised for not taking enough sciences?

This will not make or break your application.

GaititaZ: If you are taking the strongest schedule possible (or close to it) your adviser will check that you have done so and it won’t really be much of an issue.
