Enough time for Ti-89??

I have been reading a lot of threads about how useful the Ti-89 is on the Math IIC test and i was thinking of getting it. But im taking the SAT IIC test on Jan. 22 and im worried if i have enough time to familiarize myself with the calc. Do i have enough time to get used to it??? Im really hoping to get a 800 on the test. Or should i stick to my Ti-83 that i have had for like 4 years?

the ti89 will help u a lot more than just this small test.

there is time but you should use the ti89 always from now on and get it asap. the more you practice, the more milliseconds you cut down =D. go ahead and get it.

Is it worth 150 $????? Like what functions does it have that is useful on the IIC?

there are a lot of coupons out there in the world. office depot has those $20 off coupons flying everywhere once in a while.

ok.. i'll just list some functions for u.

factor()
zeros()
czeros() <- complex zeroes
solve() <- works for most functions. you can use some basic programming keywords to make more complex problems. ie. solve(2x+4y=343 & 3x+4z=3242,{x,y})

dude, you can motherf'ing do this:
type this exactly as it is...

4x^3+23x^234 | x=23423

it'll immediately get u the result of this equation WHILE x =23423
the "|" means "while"

you can also go crazy and go for like
(define f(x) first and use the crazy copy paste feature)

f(x,y,z) | x=234 and y=245 and z=234

one of the best features of the ti89 is pretty print. it'll display whatever mathematical expressions you input in a nice clean format. such as when u type 3/4 it'lll give you a 3 over 4 with a bar inbetween.

calculus
d(-234234,345345x^34) <-this calculuates the 234234th antiderivative of 345345x^34
desolve()
limit() <- hope u know what this means
sum()
fMax() <- absolute max or min i think

ok i'm tired. out.

Ti-89 basically does 3 years of high school math for you. All you have to worry about is anything above pre-calc...

khalid889, are you freaking kidding me?

it can't even do geometry.

but it can calculate the almighty derivative to any degree. (displays them awkwardly sometimes tho). this probably saves a buttload of time on ap calc exam.

i heard that it can get u laid. i think the functon is "getmelaid()"

haha mediocretes.

"it can't even do geometry. "

***? are you telling me that you're worried about pythagorean theorem?

seriously what i meant was that any serious math up through precalc (factoring, taking derivs, etc...) could be handled by the ti-89.

nah, now i think of it, there is no point, it'll bring your score DOWN, i tried to learn to use it in 3 weeks, result without calculator 800
i thought getting the calc would ensure and 800
but got 780 :(

the ti-89 can do geometry if you buy the cabri package for it from ti.
