Enroll in Two Universities at Once

In order to cut down on cost for college, I'm considering the option of taking a course online through my local community college, while at my University. Is it possible to be a full time student at my university and take a course online through the community college?

Yes, it's possible. But what is the course?
Usually your department will look down upon you if you take one of their main course at a cc. If it is just some silly requirement, then go ahead.

Make sure your university allows it. For example, my school doesn't let you transfer in courses taken in fall or spring semesters (only summer) after enrolling.

how does enrolling at 2 colleges cut down cost? are you planning on taking more than the maximum credits per semester at your school? if you are planning on being a fulltime student that means you are going to pay fulltime tuition, meaning that your tuition is not based on the number of credits you wish to take. at most schools in order to be a full time student you need to have at least 12 credits. so once you have at least 12 credits your tuition is the same whether you take 12 or 20. if you are a full time student it is better to take all your classes at your university and during the two semesters you are at school.

It would just be a gen ed course, nothing within my field. I'm an Economics major and would like to take a History course online through the CC.

i'm thinking of doing the same thing- spanish at my local CC. it will save me time, since i won't have to use up a class on spanish 1. that way i get it out of the way faster, and spend more time on my major.
also, taking classes in the summer is one way a lot of students ensure they won't be spending more than four years in college. because spending money on an extra quarter or two REALLY adds up. so summer classes are a great idea, in my opinion!

in my opinion, wouldn't it cost more since you have to pay for the class at your university and community college? (unless your university doesn't have online courses, try and see if you can get an extension of credits. i know my older friends petitioned to take more units than the maximum allowed)

also, whats the average units/course load that a person can handle during the summer? (i want to take like 14 units this summer, is that feasible?)

It's a good idea actually. It wouldn't cost more...normally community college courses are a LOT cheaper than classes at a university. Just double-check that the units will transfer over and the requirements will be fulfilled.
