Enrollees: Why Did You Choose Northwestern?

Anticipating that other people may soon be wondering if Northwestern is a good school for them, I thought it might be nice if we could each right down a few reasons that solidified NU as our top choice.
I'll begin:

1: Professors I met/classes I attended: wow, this totally blew me away. All the classes I saw were small (one had 10 students, another had 30), the professor knew each student by name, and students sometimes called the prof by his or her first name. I looked up a couple bios of the profs I met in Medill, and, wow, that blew me away and took away any dumb thoughts I had that other schools might have "better" academics (they don't)

2: Location : doesnt really need explanation. Visit NU during one of the first snows, and see how lovely it is.. or come in the late spring and enjoy the beach and parklike campus. I'd say "dont forget about Chicago", but how could you, even on a foggy day, you can see the skyline next door. There are three world class cities in the U.S. - New York, Chicago, and San Francisco (this is my opinion, not worth arguing, but Chi-town is definitely amazing)

3: Total college experience : Next year the Wildcats will play Michigan on Primetime ESPN football. They beat Ohio State last year. Fraternities/Sororities are there for anyone who needs that as part of their college experience, but dont dominate everything. Theres constantly something going on, for example, the week I was there, Zach Braff, Dick Gephardt, and the dean of a college (forget which one) at Harvard came to speak, on the same night. Guster played a concert for ten bucks the next night. **** like this goes on all the time. And having a daily newspaper and great (albeit ugly) campus center really unified the student body, everybody knew what was going on, everyone seemed full of college life.

4 Other students/likely prospies that I met: wow, can I say the most motivated/intelligent people I have ever met? I never knew that 7,000 people like that existed, let alone in one place.

wow, i had planned this to be a short list, but here I find myself typing away. Everybody else can type as little or as much as they'd like (dont use my length as an example), I was just afraid that this post is going dead.

I don't have a particular order, but here are the things I like about NU: :D

Appearance + Size of Campus: I love the fact that it's a lakeside campus, and it's not too big (like a public school, or Cornell for that matter), and not too small. It's beautiful year-round, and I love the snow.

Locaton: I like the fact that it's not in a big city, but right next to one so you can have the advantages of a big city, but not necessarily the disadvantages. I don't mind that it's in the midwest, I always wanted to go to college AWAY from California. I'm also very fond of extremely cold weather (it's too hot for me in cali), so this fits me well.

Academics: Northwestern obviously has very good academics, and actually HAS the majors that I'm interested in. That's a big plus for me.

Past graduates of my high school at NU right now have all loved the school, and recommended it.

I have some more reasons, though... I'll post them later when I remember them.

one word: the lake... (both the real one and the beautiful "fake" one)
they're going to have to make a bunch of them over at hyp if they want to have any chance at getting any nu admits lol...

I am just going to the summer program (for now) but one word: Evanston. It is beautiful, near my old home (which I loved), and by Chicago, a city that I love.

I hear that the plays/musicals there are wonderful.

It has a wonderful film department which I am sure will offer fun classes.

Purple! What a fun, unique color!!

TheCity: Do you know of any site that has the list of scheduled speakers? Did you get a chance to listen to any of them?

Only problem: I wish that they allowed dogs! I know that no colleges really do... but if anyone knows any sororities or dorms there that allow cute, well-behaved, 30 pound dogs...let me know! :)

i dotn know where a total list is
but the site students use to find out whats going on on campus is hereandnow.northwestern.edu
according to it, toni morrison is speaking tomorrow night, some other nobel laureate (peace) spoke last night.
I encourage anyone considering NU to check it out, it has a calender "Plan-It-Purple" of everything going on, and links to useful, revealing sites.

Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!
