Enrolling in Courses -- Unit Limit

I'm an incoming freshman at UCR. I remember at Orientation they put a 15-unit cap on us and told us we could add classes later.

I enrolled in 3 courses worth 13 units, and told myself I'd add another course worth 4 units later on. Now that the classes have all opened up, I've tried to enroll, but then Growl blocks me and tells me that I'm trying to go past my limit.

Did I just hear what they told me wrong at Orientation? Is the limit 15 for a Fall-Quarter Freshman, regardless of when I sign up for classes?

Also, once I reach Winter and Spring Quarters, will this limit be removed? Once I'm out of Fall Quarter, will any sort of limit continue to be imposed on me?

The limit it probably 16.

The cap is constant (from what I know about the first 2 years).

Your guide meant that “you can change your class/schedule at a later time, but for now let’s rnake the best of what you got”

So there won’t be any way for me to tack on courses beyond the 16-unit cap, even after the Fall Quarter is over?

If you are in UCR pre-business for the first two years, no. I am not too sure about upper division though.

It’s almost impossible to take 5 classes per quarter because most classes are 4 units are more.

Some electrical engineering classes do go for 0 units though.

The thing is that I’m only taking 3 courses (one worth 5) units and that’s what’s keeping me from tacking on a 4th course, and it’s really irritating. Will I never be able to take, say, two 5-unit courses and two 4-unit courses?

I’m not a pre-business major, by the way.

I know… You’re a bio/med student right?

I’ve tried 5+5+4+4 and the system wouldn’t allow it.

Are you an incoming Soph?

I want to qualify for med-school once I graduate, but I’m a student in a CHASS major.

Is the most efficient way to earn units 4+4+4+4?

I’ve always thought the cap was at 20 units. During my first quarter of freshmen year I took 19 units.

I believe honors students have 20 units cap.

ahnyoungs2: When were you a freshman? Also, were you an Honors student, because the cap is indeed 20 for them, I believe.

I am a freshmen x]

Weren’t you given a unit cap at orientation as well?

Sorry, the unit-question was intended for id0nkno. My bad.

id0nkno: What graduating class were/are you?

All I know is they made me take only 16 units at orientation.

it only your first quarter afterwards it 20 . Last year there was the gap was 20

so for now i’m stuck at 13, but next quarter, i can get up to 20?

I had 17 last year when I was a freshmen?

unit limit is 20, you can submit an application form to your counselor if you wanna go past it.

I was a freshmen last year.

I got overwritten to 17, I guess it has to do with the extra stuff from the first year program, hope I am not crammed with work lol

im also at ucr and the limit on all uc’s i believe is 16 units…the logic behind that is to leave classes for everyone. yeah bunch of bs right…
this wouldnt of happened if californias economic system wouldnt of went down the ****hole because of greedy ass corporate people…
tax the rich people, not the freaking students
