Hey everyone. I'm applying ED to Trinity, and while looking up the stats of students accepted/the number of students applied from classes of 2009-2011, something got my attention:

Class of 2009:
Applications to Trinity ED:1270
Accepted: 385 (30.3%)

Class of 2010:
Applications to Trinity ED:1291
Accepted: 392 (30.3%)

Class of 2011:
Applications to Trinity ED: 1020
Accepted: 433 (42.5%)

First of all, does anyone know why there was such a drop-off in the amount of ED applications for the Class of 2011. Second, why did they accept so many of these few kids who applied? Is it just a coincidence because the ED applicants were much stronger last year? Lastly, does anyone know what kind of numbers are expected for Trinity ED this year (Class of 2012)? What's the trend going to be for this year?

Any feedback/insight would be much appreciated.

Duke LAX case? I think this would be the fall after the Duke LAX case. Honestly I have no idea.

Duke's explanation for the drop in ED last year: negative coverage as a result of the LAX scandal and possibly a national trend against ED after Harvard, Princeton, and UVA dropped it (Yale also saw a similar drop).

newsobserver.com | Fewer apply early at Duke

Total applicants returned to a normal level (second most applicants in history), including the most Asian, African American, and Hispanic applicants in history. Applicants to Trinity were actually the most in Duke history, while Pratt's numbers went down for some reason.

I'd expect numbers for ED to resume to more normal numbers (~1500) while total apps should be around 19,000, but that is a complete guess. I'd expect about a third of early applicants to be accepted and the overall acceptance rate to be around 20%.

Any idea on Trinity numbers for 2012?

^ Your guess is as good as mine. I personally think total applications will set a new record by a little bit, but shouldn't be significantly different from last year. I think ~1250 early to Trinity is reasonable to expect.

Eww...that can't be good for my chances

why did duke accept more applicants than years before last year even when there applications dropped over 200??

That is the question
