I just checked my enrollment appointments on URSA and it lists 3 (Priority, First Pass, Second pass). Can someone please clarify what exactly each means and what kind of limits are created by these different types.

Priority = enrollment is limited to high-priority courses (e.g. GE clusters)
First Pass = enrollment is limited to 10 units maximum
Second Pass = enrollment is unlimited

I had a question for a friend. If one has priority pass, of which to enroll in 10 units, can he enroll in 10 additional units in first pass or is that just a useless time slot.

wait, what classes are considered "high-priority"? we can't use priority enrollment to enroll in any class we want?

No, he can't get any additional units. If he's already enrolled in 10 units' worth of priority courses by the time his First Pass rolls around, then it's of no use to him.

flopsy? what have you been smoking?

priority is same as first pass, but just earlier. you can enroll for any class you want, up to 10 units. keep in mind that 10 unit cap continues through first pass. so if you use all 10 of those in your priority pass, you can't enroll in anymore courses until second pass.

^ Isn't it then most logical to use all of the 10 units in the priority enrollment rather than wait until first pass?

Sorry. I got priority enrollment mixed up with... something else.
At least I'm still right about First Pass becoming useless.

Uclabruins- yes, it is. and that's what most people do. but if you changed your mind or something, your enrollment would still be open during first pass but you still couldn't exceed the 10 units. so you would have to drop one class for another in order to stay within 10 units until your second pass.
