I sent my deposit fee check in the envelope enclosed in my addmission packet. The envelope was addressed to the "Financial Aid Office" (i check if i had another envelope, but i did not). I used certified mail and checked online and received a receipt saying that the envelope was delivered on Tuesday, April 18th. I have been calling both the Undergraduate Admissions office (where the envelope it's supposed to be) and the Financial Aid Office. Everyone told me to wait, that it's going to be sorted out, but i need to receive a gwid and email so i can get housing.... Arghhh....What else should i do? They always tell me it's not processed yet...but it's been a week. What if it got lost? Should i sent another check? (that's gonna be extra 800 dollars)
:(

This is a common problem, so do not worry. What you need to do is monitor if they check has ever been cashed and if it has then call admissions with that information and they will be able to help you further, but only if you have proof that the check has been cashed, which you bank can tell you online, phone, or in branch. I am not sure what kind of documentation GW needs as proof, but I am sure a print out from a bank site will help them locate the check.

I do find it odd the check was to Financial Aid, as my check was sent directly to the Office of Admissions, but even so it is GW and the person opening the letter should recognize that it's not for their department, but admissions.

You should also note that there are over a thousand envelopes just like yours that are infiltrating the GW mail system, which can have issues at being reliable. So just sit tight for a little while more and if that check is cashed, call up GW. I know you are nervous now, but they are pretty understanding, just give it a day more.

Also, it doesn't matter when you file housing, GW does not operate like many universities in that respect.

Congratulations and I can't wait to meet you in the fall!

thank you for the advice.

i JUST decided to go to gw. literally 20 minutes ago. im going away for the rest of the weekend so i rushed to get the thing out in todays mail. i didnt even notice what the address on the enevelope was, and just stuck the peice of paper and the check inside. did i stick it in the wrong envelope? haha i was in a HUGE rush and wouldn't be surprised if i did, and if this envelope was wrong... what should i do?

You should have had only one envelope.... so you are ok, plus if worse comes to worse call GW on Monday and explain what happened, they won't say no.
