Am I obligated to go to a school in which I payed an enrollment deposit? I have applied to out of state school that I have a small chance of getting into (ex. Ivy). If I wait until they send me a decision and I get denied then I might not have such a great dorm. Should I pay my enrollment deposit to my state school early so that I will be able to reserve a good dorm?

No college can make you attend, even after you have been accepted and sent in a deposit. It’s alright to put a deposit on a school now and then change to another college that you are accepted to later. What is not OK is keeping deposits on multiple schools.

Sending in a deposit for rolling admission school to hold a dorm space is pretty common. The main drawback is that the deposit is often non-refundable.
