Enrollment stats

Some new stats

[UA Enrollment Reaches Record High; Freshmen Bring High Scores, GPAs | University of Alabama News - The University of Alabama](http://uanews.ua.edu/2013/09/ua-enrollment-reaches-record-high-freshmen-bring-high-scores-gpas/)

126 National Merit, down from 239 the year before…and no diner this year.

Enrollment at The University of Alabama reached a record high 34,852 students this fall.

Total enrollment is up 3.7 percent, an increase of 1,250 students over fall 2012.

29,443 undergraduates and 5,409 graduate and first professional students.

The freshman class totals 6,478 students, including 1,768 students who had a 4.0 or higher GPA in high school

1,741 students who scored in the top 5 percent on the ACT. (I think that’s 27% had an ACT 30+)

The average ACT score for the class is 25.8, the highest in UA history. (about 83 percentile)

“The University of Alabama is attracting students who are successful both inside and outside the classroom,” said UA President Judy Bonner. “Our incoming students are very well qualified. Many first-year students have already completed AP, International Baccalaureate or dual enrollment college courses, and we are pleased that they are choosing UA to pursue their goals.”

More than 600 National Merit Scholars are enrolled at UA, including 126 in the freshman class, (That 126 is a huge drop, resulting from the housing change that year. With the newly announced better scholarship, that number should go back up next year.)

and UA’s students and graduates include numerous Fulbright, Goldwater, Truman and Hollings scholars.

Students enrolled at UA this year are from all 50 states and 77 foreign countries.

What was the housing change? Is the scholarship change you are refering to the $3500 and 10 semesters, or is there more to the change? Thanks.

Well, let’s just be happy that it has changed for the good for the 2014 class.

Indeed. The current package is quite amazing. Next year’s NMF numbers will certainly increase.

Is the scholarship change you are refering to the $3500 and 10 semesters

That is the improvement over last year’s offer. With the above offer, the NMF numbers should increase again.

It is certainly better than last year and appears to offer more flexibility than the prior years.
Apparently UA’s recruitment of NMF’s is quite price sensitive.

Three years of housing, two semesters of tuition, and/or a large increase in stipend warrants price sensitivity.

I realize it was a significant $ change. The two extra semesters of tuition will be valuable to some and not others. A definite + if you want your masters from UA as well as a BS.

Or even to use it to pay for a semester abroad.

Yes, definitely jealous of the NMF kids coming in since DS missed out. Although jealous, I was very happy to see Bama react and increase the offer for this year’s batch.
