Has anyone gotten one? Or knows anything about getting one, and what it means to get one?

In other words, any information is appreciated!

i got the harvard one
i dont really know the significance but i got to go to a great breakfast at the harvard club.

Receiving a book award basically means that you're in good standing at your high school and in your area. Even if it's no huge deal, I'm honored to have been nominated and selected for the Princeton Book Award in my region... especially after attending the reception and meeting the other four winners, who were huge overachievers!

i got a book. the end.

University of Rochester Xerox Award.

Application fee is waived and am eligible to be considered for a scholarship at U of Rochester.

Don't know exactly how you get the award or what it means if you do.

Oooh, sweet deal!

Another thing I forgot to mention about mine: the members of the Princeton alumni committee who selected the winners offered to write recommendation letters for us should we decide to apply to Princeton. That's a nice bonus... having connections to the school, ya know?

What is a freaking book award anyways? You read a book, and then...you get an award? I had no idea such things existed.

This website indeed...

Lolol nooo... a region-based alumni organization from a certain university selects students from this region (usually nominated by their high schools) to win some books. :] The book thing is pretty symbolic, I think -- it's really sort of a ploy for attention from the university.

is this award given only to some regions?? cuz Ive neveeeer heard of anyone that has received it in my region..

Hmm... probably. Like, if you live in a small town, there probably aren't active alumni groups to do the selection and stuff...? I live in the suburbs between Baltimore and DC, sooo there are lots of people around here -- students from my school were nominated for four different schools' book awards (Princeton, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Wellesley, and some other one...)! Some schools probably don't participate in those things, either.

^ haha actually I live in fairfax va...but Ive still never heard of anyone that received it... so i guess our school just doesnt participate ...

I really doubt these "book awards" are worth anything of significance...

Yeah, it's no big deal. We got a nice reception dinner, though, and it's always good to have "connections."

At the academic awards night, book awards were last and principal said something to the effect: "Now, the prestigious junior year awards...". Got one, but still unsure about it.

I live in a small town, and this is one of those things I hadn't heard of before I came to CC.

Agh, well I guess college book awards are another ploy for "recruitment" from colleges. It sucks how much colleges are like businesses now.

I didn't know about them until my school gave a Northwestern award to Junior year's sal. I got the science award (im the val), and I guess they didn't want to give both to me lol.

our school had a bunch...harvard (I was one of 2), yale, upenn, brown, columbia, wellesly, vassar, etc. to name a few :P
unfortunately we didn't get any special reception/dinner or in touch with alumni or anything...we just all got them at a school awards ceremony

are these important enough to put on my app? lol

i live in a small town too and we only get a few
Dartmouth, Brown and some other school I've never heard of

Someone told me it's like advertising and at my school, i doubt we get anything special. the awards were just announced at the school ceremony
