Entering 7th/8th grade courses

The application is requesting grades for courses that fit the a-g requirements in middle school. I took Algebra I in 7th and Geometry in 8th, but I don’t remember exactly what grades I got.

I heard that they only calculate GPA based off of 10th and 11th, and that filling courses in taken in middle school are only for checking the boxes in the a-g requirement. Since I already have satisfied a-g through my high school courses, is it worth entering the middle school ones? However, I have also heard that taking extra years of math would make my course list appear more rigorous. (I’m applying to SLO)

But if I enter the wrong grades, that would surely count against me. Should I just enter lower grades than I think I got so as not to appear as if I’m lying to the college to make my application look better, or just not put the courses in at all?

I wouldn’t bother submitting these at all if you don’t need them for requirements. why would anyone care about them? you are basically a different person now.

Applicants should enter 7&8th grade a-g courses for Cal Poly SLO.

Cal Poly SLO uses an MCA point system. It is unique in that it counts the number of years taken versus level completed.

For example, an applicant gets bonus MCA points for 5 years of math. Even if both applicants complete through the same level. The student who neglects to put their 7/8th grade math does not get the bonus points.

Cal Poly SLO does not use a holistic review. No essays. No LORs. No ECs. So putting in all the a-g courses important.

The Cal Poly SLO website has an application guide that includes additional information about entering 7&8th grade courses.

I recall one poster reported that CP SLO told them to enter grades as “passed” versus entering a grade. You should confirm with CP SLO.

@svlab112 is correct if you are applying to SLO, you need to enter in your Math and Foreign language courses taken in Middle School.
SLO application does not ask for specific grades and P/NP can be paced if desired; this was also verified with Admissions.

I emailed to verify and they pretty much said the same thing, just inputting pass is ok. Thank you all for your replies!
