Entering Boarding School as a Sophomore?

I was wondering if entering a boarding school as a sophomore is harder then entering in freshman year. Also hoe do you think the new sophomores blend with the old sophomores moving up from freshman year?

I’ve wondered this as well.

for me possibly entering as a sophomore is really scary so I’ll be watching this thread

Boarding schools expand the class body size considerably in sophomore year, especially the New England prep schools because so many of the feeder middle schools in New England graduate their kids in 9th grade. The schools outside New England tend not to take as many new sophomores (i.e. California, mid-atlantic, etc).

Because such a large number of new sophomores enter, the prep school have a lot of support programs in place to facilitate their successful integration.

At my kids’ school, about 10 to 20 new sophomores arrive each year, bringing the class size up to about 100. The existing students are excited to meet their new classmates. At meals, whenever a new student sits down at a table with people she hasn’t met, they’ll introduce themselves. For most kids, it’s fairly easy to integrate into the class if they go to some social events and hang out with people after classes. New day students will find that eating dinner at school for the first several weeks will help with blending in.

FYI, This is another topic that is worth a search for old posts.

I just entered “New Sophomores” into the Advanced Search tool (specifying only the Prep School Admission sub forum" and came up with a bazillion results (I exaggerate, but only slightly).

Here is a link to just one (not many posts, but some…and there are plenty more to chase down):
