Entering BSE without indicating that I am considering it

Hi everyone,

so I was recently accepted to Princeton SCEA (yay!) with the intention of studying math/physics/philosophy in the AB program. I did not indicate that I was considering a BSE. As a point of interest, I was just wondering if I could begin the year in the BSE program regardless. Would I have to notify anyone like the academic dean if I chose to take this route?

Thanks

Congratulations! Princeton is a great place! Switching from AB to BSE is certainly doable provided you have the necessary preparation to be successful (senior math and physics in high school which you almost certainly have given that you applied intending to look at math and physics!). You will have an opportunity to meet with an academic advisor shortly before the semester begins. You need to let your advisor know you would like to switch and they will help you fill out the necessary forms. Officially you will not declare an area of concentration until the end of your freshman year as a BSE concentrator but you will still want to make sure you have all the necessary courses covered off.

Again congratulations and all the best to you!!!

Congratulations! Your post caught my eye because my son (Princeton class of '13) originally was considering both physics and philosophy. He never considered BSE, and ended up studying physics and a lot of math. Good luck in your time at Princeton. If you have any specific questions about the physics/math departments, now would be a good time to PM me, as DS is home for the holidays.

It doesn’t really matter if you’re AB or BSE your freshman year as long as you are fulfilling all of the requirements of your respective major(s) of interest.
